'Housefull' grosses Rs 64 crore in opening weekend

'Housefull,' the multi-starrer Sajid Khan movie, has done a good business of Rs 64 crore in its first opening weekend, worldwide.
The movie that stars Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone and Jiah Khan has been made at a whopping 45 crore and has grossed 48 crores in its home country, India.
'Housefull' is a romantic comedy and it opened to 2000 screens globally on Friday and its overseas earning was 16 crore over the weekend.
Nandu Ahuja, senior vice president of Eros International Media Limited, informs, “Housefull being the first major release post 45 days of cricket frenzy, we were confident that it will open very well. With its excellent weekend performance, the biggest of the year so far, Housefull has lived up to its name.”
Cinema response of Housefull
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, 'Housefull' has witnessed an average occupancy of 90 per cent in almost every multiplex in the country.
The comic movie features a man who marries in the hope of finding true love in his life but ends up in situations that has the audience laughing most of the time.
Amit Awasthi, manager of Spice Cinemas, reveals, “The weekend response was tremendous. Despite having 31 shows at a gap of half-an-hour, the average occupancy has been nothing less than 80-85 per cent and the weekend was jam packed. It has a done of business of gross Rs.2.5 million in three days.”
“Housefull exploded like a bomb at the dull box office and has been amazing. People are liking the content and it has brought us close to 80 per cent occupancy despite having more than 200 shows across all our propertied in Delhi and NCR,” quips a source from PVR Cinemas.
Deepika’s first comedy movie
Actress Deepika Padukone plays a glam doll in Housefull and impresses the audience with her brilliant performance in the movie.
Styled by Aki Narula in the film, she looks better than Lara and Jiah in the movie. She reveals that her bikini color was also decided by Aki and Sajid and all she cared for was her shoot.
About featuring in a comedy movie, Deepika says, “Comedy is one of the toughest genres for an actor. I was quite nervous on the first few days of the shooting.”
“Actually, comedy is not just about making funny expressions; it’s about timing and being spontaneous. In that sense, there was very little acting. I just said my lines as naturally as possible,” she concludes.
